Pork, Mentoring, And Unfortunate Color Combinations At Stake In Football Bet Between Ed Lee And Mayor Of Charlotte

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee has made another bet on the 49ers as they prepare for this weekend’s NFC Divisional Playoff game against the Carolina Panthers.

Lee made the wager today with Mayor Patrick Cannon from Charlotte, N.C., the hometown of the Panthers, who are hosting Sunday’s playoff matchup.

The mayor of the losing team will have to wear the colors from the winning team during mentoring activities with youth at the upcoming U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C., from Jan. 22-24.

Delicacies from the losing city—either barbecue pulled pork from Charlotte or Boudin sourdough and Ghirardelli chocolate from San Francisco—will also go to the victor, according to Lee’s office.

Lee won a bet last weekend with Mayor James Schmitt from Green Bay, Wisc., after the 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers 23-20 to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

“The 49ers are firing on all cylinders—the defense is playing at a whole new level and the offense is really clicking,” Lee said in a statement. “I fully expect to place a Niners cap on Mayor Cannon’s head later this month.”

Sunday’s game is scheduled for 10:05 a.m. PST.
