8:32 PM: A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed while crossing Van Ness Avenue near San Francisco City Hall this evening, police said.

The victim had been in an altercation on the west side of Van Ness near Grove Street at about 6:20 p.m. and then ran across Van Ness, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

After nearly making it across all seven lanes of Van Ness, the pedestrian was struck by a car in the easternmost lane, Esparza said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision.

7:57 PM: A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near San Francisco City Hall this evening, police said.

The collision happened near the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Grove Street, police said.
