Man Fights For Life Following Mission District Shooting

A man was critically injured in a shooting in San Francisco’s Mission District early on New Year’s Day, a police spokesman said today.

The shooting was reported at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday near 24th and York streets.

The 19-year-old victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were considered life-threatening, police spokesman Sgt. Eric O’Neal said.

Officers responding to the scene of the shooting were flagged down by witnesses who provided descriptions of the suspect, O’Neal said.

Officers then detained multiple people in the area based on those descriptions and arrested a man for an outstanding warrant, O’Neal said. He said investigators do not yet know if the man was connected to the shooting.

More information about the shooting was not immediately available this morning because the case remains under investigation, O’Neal said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
