San Francisco Municipal Railway cable car service has been disrupted this afternoon because of a damaged cable, a Muni spokesman said.

The problem was reported around 11:45 a.m. on both the Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde lines, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.

Crews responded to repair the cable but there was no estimate yet for when service might resume, Rose said. He said the cause of the damage was not immediately known.

The California cable car line was also briefly impacted by a mechanical problem but service was restored by 12:50 p.m., he said.

Muni bus shuttles are running along the Powell lines to take riders to their destinations. The 30-Stockton and 45-Union-Stockton lines will also honor cable car fares on those specific routes, agency officials said.
