A San Francisco man was arrested in Millbrae on Wednesday afternoon for allegedly attempting to harass or molest a child, San Mateo County sheriff’s officials said.

At about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies arrested 28-year-old San Francisco resident Marlon Monton after receiving information that he was attempting to molest or harass children.

Detectives received reports that Monton had given his phone number to two middle school-aged children while they were walking home from school.

In an undercover operation, law enforcement officers engaged Morton in a conversation via text message and purported to be a 13-year-old girl, according to the sheriff’s office.

Monton represented himself to be a high school junior and agreed to meet up with the 13-year-old girl and bring alcohol, sheriff’s officials said.

He was arrested with alcohol and the cellphone containing the text messages in his possession, deputies said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Monton was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail with bail set at $200,000.
