One Person Shot In Mid-Market Street Fight

2:40 PM: One person was injured in a shooting that stemmed from a street fight in San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood this afternoon, police said.

At 1:33 p.m., police began receiving 911 calls from people reporting shots fired in the area of Market and Jones streets.

“Because of the time of day, we had quite a few callers into 911,” San Francisco police Sgt. Danielle Newman said.
She said the callers told dispatchers that between four and eight shots had been fired.

A police officer at the scene said the shooting stemmed from a fight, and several witnesses said the suspect shot the victim on Jones Street between Market Street and Golden Gate Avenue.

An employee at 3 Potato 4, located at 1051 Market St., said he saw a man clutching his torso who appeared to be injured. He said the man collapsed in front of 1035 Market St., which houses the San Francisco AIDS Foundation offices.

A crowd gathered around the victim and there was a lot of commotion, said the employee, who declined to give his name.

The victim was conscious when he was later loaded into an ambulance, he said.

Newman said the investigation is “still unfolding” and that police are still working to determine what actually happened.

“We don’t have anyone in custody at this point,” she said.

Jones Street has been blocked off between Golden Gate Avenue and Market Street, and another area has been cordoned off in front of 1035 Market St., where the victim collapsed.
