More than 3,900 PG&E customers in San Francisco’s Chinatown and Financial District have been without power since late this morning, a utility company spokesman said.

Two separate outages were reported at 11:38 a.m. and 11:49 a.m., PG&E spokesman Jason King said.

Utility crews are responding to the area and “trying to determine whether (the outages) are linked or not,” King said.

King said it seems likely that they are connected, as they occurred within 10 minutes of each other and are in the same vicinity.

The area affected by the outage includes Sacramento and Jackson streets between Stockton and Grant streets, and Pacific, Battery and Steuart streets closer to downtown, he said.

As of 12:45 p.m., power had been restored to only 17 customers. The remaining customers are expected to have power back by 3:30 p.m., King said.

The cause of the outages is under investigation but there appears to be an issue with underground equipment, King said.
