An Oakland evangelist who incorrectly predicted the end of the world in 2011 has died, according to an announcement from his organization.
Harold Camping, founder of the Christian radio network Family Radio Worldwide, died Sunday at his home after suffering injuries in a fall on Nov. 30.
Camping gained national publicity after his organization placed billboards around the Bay Area and elsewhere warning that God would destroy the world on May 21, 2011.
When that date came and went, Camping then also incorrectly predicted the world would end in October 2011. He had previously also predicted the end of the world would come in 1994.
The statement from Family Radio said Camping passed away at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday with his family at his side.
The nonprofit radio network was launched by Camping in 1958.
