Authorities Believe Pedestrian Death Was Suicide

Authorities are treating the death of a woman who was hit by a truck on Interstate Highway 80 in San Francisco early Friday morning as a suicide, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The 56-year-old woman was struck at about 5:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Seventh Street, according to the CHP.

CHP Officer Michael Ferguson said the woman appears to have gone into traffic intentionally.

After she was struck, she was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later that morning, according to the CHP.

The incident blocked eastbound lanes of the highway for about an hour.
