Holiday Weekend Traffic And Transit Disruptions: Thanksgiving Parking And Muni, Tree Lighting, Critical Mass

Holiday Muni Schedule, Parking Enforcement and Holiday Traffic Information
On Thursday for the Thanksgiving Day holiday, Muni will operate on a Sunday schedule. On Friday Muni will operate on a regular weekday schedule to provide service for those visiting and shopping in the city.

On Thanksgiving Day parking meters and seven day street sweeping will not be enforced citywide. On Friday parking meters and 7-day street sweeping will be enforced. Commuter tow away, residential parking permits and Monday-Friday street sweeping will not be enforced on either day.

Meters on Port of San Francisco property, including The Embarcadero and Fisherman’s Wharf, will be enforced seven days per week throughout the year, except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Hazards are always subject to ticketing and towing.

Central Subway Construction During Holiday Season
Central Subway construction will pause on Stockton Street in Union Square and recommence on January 2, 2014. All Union Square businesses remain open. Stockton Street and Ellis Street will be paved and reopened to traffic by Friday. One lane of Ellis Street between Stockton Street and the Ellis-O’Farrell Garage will remain closed during the holidays due to work related to the Central Subway tunnels.

In North Beach, utility construction work will stop at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Union Street starting Thanksgiving Day. The contractor is currently restoring the pavement on Columbus Avenue before reopening all lanes of traffic. Construction is planned to resume on January 2, 2014.

San Francisco Rescue Mission Event
A holiday event hosted by San Francisco Rescue Mission will take place on Thanksgiving Day on Jones Street.

Jones Street between Eddy and Turk streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.

No Muni bus service will be affected.

Turkey Day 5K Run
On Thursday, the 5K Turkey Day Run will start at 8 a.m. at AT&T Park, lead out along the waterfront, heading south of Market District and finish at City Hall.

The following street closures will be required from 7:45 to 9 a.m.

Northbound Embarcadero between 2nd and Mission streets
Howard Street between northbound Embarcadero and 7th Street
7th Street between Howard and Market streets
CJ Brenham Street between Market and McAllister streets

Fulton Street between Hyde and Larkin streets

Intersections are to be closed by Intermittent Traffic Control.

Union Square Tree Lighting Ceremony
On Friday, the 24th annual tree lighting will take place at 6 p.m. at Union Square Park.

Geary Street between Mason Street and Grant Avenue will be closed from 4 to 9 p.m.

As the crowd grows, the following streets closures will be required on an as-needed basis:
Post Street between Mason Street and Grant Avenue
Powell Street between O’Farrell and Sutter streets
Stockton Street between O’Farrell and Sutter streets
Intersections: Stockton and Powell streets on Geary Boulevard; Powell and Stockton streets on Post Street

The following Muni lines and routes will be affected starting at 3:30 p.m.:

Critical Mass
On Friday, beginning at 6 p.m., the Critical Mass bicycle ride will begin at Justin Herman Plaza.

49ers Football Game
On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers will host their sixth home game against the St. Louis Rams at 1:05 p.m. at Candlestick Park.

Motorists should expect delays on all bridges and freeways leading into San Francisco for at least two hours before the start of the game and for at least two hours after the end of the game. NEW NFL Bag Policy: Fans should be advised that there is a new NFL Bag Policy in effect at 49ers games. Only NFL-approved bags will be permitted inside Candlestick Park. For more information, please visit www.49ers.com/stadium/prohibited-items.html.

On game days, Muni offers several ways to get to Candlestick Park from locations throughout San Francisco. There are four Muni Express routes and two Shuttles.

All service, including the express service, is regular fare service, $2 adult per trip and $.75 for youth/senior/disabled per trip.

For faster boarding, customers are encouraged to buy their fare prior to boarding the express service. Clipper cards with either a Fast Pass or pre-loaded cash can be purchased at your convenience. Customers can load their cards online at www.clippercard.com (please allow at least five days for processing), or at one of the participating Clipper vendors or ticket vending machines in a Muni Metro station. On game days, Muni customers may purchase their fare in advance. SFMTA staff will sell one-way and roundtrip Muni fares from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the following locations:

For service to and from the game, T Third customers should transfer at the Gilman/Paul station to the 87 Candlestick Shuttle, which operates directly between the station and Candlestick Park.

79X Candlestick Express Re-route

As of last year, the southbound 79X, which provides express service to the 49ers game from downtown, will be re-routed due to Central Subway construction on Stockton and 4th streets. Customers traveling to the game can board the 79X Candlestick Express at the following locations:

· Sutter and Kearny

· Mason and Geary

· Cyril Magnin and Market

· 5th Street and Mission

· 5th Street and Howard

· 5th Street and Folsom

The southbound buses will then travel express to Candlestick Park from 5th and Folsom streets. Northbound buses will remain on the regular route.
