Double Stabbing Suspect Nabbed On Steps Of Hall Of Justice

A man was arrested on the steps of San Francisco’s Hall Of Justice this afternoon after allegedly stabbing two people nearby, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers were approached at about 3:45 p.m. outside the courthouse at 850 Bryant St. by a man who said he had been stabbed.

While investigating the report, an officer saw a second victim pointing at the suspect, a man with a knife, who suddenly ran across Bryant Street toward the officer and the Hall, police Sgt. Danielle Newman said.

The officer drew his gun, pointed it at the suspect and said, “Drop the knife!”

The man was then taken into custody. His name was not immediately available, Newman said.

The man had a shaggy beard and graying hair, and his pants had fallen down around his ankles as officers took him away in handcuffs into the Hall, located at 850 Bryant St.

Newman said both victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, but she did not have information about their injuries.

The second victim suffered wounds to his back but the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Crime tape briefly blocked a portion of the courthouse steps where the knife remained until crews picked it up and cleared the scene by about 4:30 p.m.

The Hall of Justice houses the Police Department’s headquarters and Southern Police Station, San Francisco Superior Court courtrooms, the district attorney’s office and other agencies.
