SFPD Investigating Fatal Shooting In Mission District

10:29 AM: San Francisco police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the city’s Mission District early this morning.

The shooting was reported around 4:30 a.m. near Bartlett and 21st streets.

Officers arrived and found a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police blocked off Bartlett Street between 21st and 22nd streets for much of this morning to investigate the shooting. They have not yet made any arrests in the case.

Robert Martinez, who lives nearby on York Street, lit a white candle to place near the crime scene this morning.

Martinez, who was wearing a red San Francisco 49ers jersey, said he didn’t know the victim but wanted to come out to pay his respects, having had a sister killed in a shooting more than a decade ago.

“It’s just sad,” he said. “That was someone’s son or someone’s father.”

The medical examiner’s office has not yet released the victim’s name.
