Cyclist Who Was Struck By Hit And Run Driver Expected To Survive

A woman was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run for allegedly driving away after hitting a bicyclist in San Francisco’s Richmond District early Tuesday morning, police said today.

Hilah Sulme, 56, was taken into custody after the collision, which was reported at 3:13 a.m. at California Street and Eighth Avenue, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.

Police said Sulme’s white van struck the bicyclist, a male who was taken to the hospital. Police initially said the cyclist’s injuries were life-threatening, but Shyy said today that he is expected to survive.

Sulme allegedly fled from the scene but was later found and taken into custody. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision, Shyy said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
