Those who have lost loved ones in fatal accidents on the eastern span of the old Bay Bridge will have a chance to say goodbye at a large memorial ceremony on the now-empty bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Immediate family members will be able to attend an on-site Bay Bridge Memorial Day on Nov. 9 to remember those who died on the old span.
Family members will be escorted onto the span that closed to traffic when the bridge’s new eastern span opened at the beginning of September.
The old span will be slowly dismantled over the next few years, making the memorial event a unique chance for people to visit the spot where their loved ones perished, according to the CHP.
The CHP is inviting those who would like to remember someone who died on the bridge to contact CHP Officer Michael Ferguson at (415) 557-1094.
The CHP is working with the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Bay Area chapter to organize the service scheduled for 10 a.m.
