Visiting Hours Extended At SF Jails

The San Francisco Sheriff’s Department has announced extended visiting hours at two of its county jails.

Visitors are now allowed from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays at County Jail 3 and during those same hours on Thursdays at County Jail 4. Both jails are located at the Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St.

The changes took effect last week. Previously, there had been no weekday evening visiting hours at the jails.

Visitors to inmates at County Jail 5, located at 1 Moreland Drive in San Bruno, can also now use an online service to schedule meetings with an incarcerated loved one.

Previously, visitors could only register by phone or by coming to the jail on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Family support is crucial to successful reintegration into the community, and a well-documented counter-weight to the pull of recidivism,” Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi said in a statement.

“This is a major leap into the present for customer service—the days of a lone deputy answering a phone to take reservations are done,” Mirkarimi said.
