A small earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.3 was reported near San Rafael this morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor occurred at 8:44 a.m. and had an epicenter 4 miles north of San Rafael, according to the USGS.

The earthquake had a depth of 3 miles.
