A man who was tackled by a San Francisco parking control officer after allegedly attacking a woman in the city’s Western Addition neighborhood on Thursday afternoon died several hours later, a police spokesman said today.
The incident was reported at about 12:35 p.m. Thursday near Laguna Street and Larch Way, located just west of Jefferson Square Park.
A woman was walking south on Laguna toward Turk Street when a man attacked her, pulling her hair and knocking her to the ground, then kicking and punching her, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
A San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic officer witnessed the attack and tackled the man, who “fell to the ground and suffered some sort of injury,” Shyy said.
The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at about 10:15 p.m., according to Shyy. The man’s name and his cause of death have not yet been determined, Shyy said.
The woman who was attacked was also hospitalized after complaining of pain to her back and arm, Shyy said.
Paul Rose, spokesman for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which oversees the DPT officers, said the agency was still awaiting details on the case from police.
