America’s Cup Finals: Team New Zealand Holds Commanding Lead Over Oracle

Through four races of the America’s Cup Finals, Emirates Team New Zealand holds a 3-0 lead over defending champion Oracle Team USA.

Each team won a race on Sunday, a day after Emirates took both races on Saturday.

Emirates won its third in a row during the finals after taking the first race Sunday afternoon, overcoming a penalty and a 17-second deficit to win the race by 28 seconds.

Oracle Team USA put a halt to the New Zealand win streak with a victory in race four, the second of Sunday afternoon. The defending champs managed to eke out the win by eight seconds.

With Oracle Team USA having been docked two points for illegal boat modifications in 2012 and early this year, the defending champion still has to win 10 races to reclaim the title.

New Zealand, however, only needs six more victories to attain the nine points needed to win the competition.
The two sides will take a day off before racing twice on Tuesday, at 1:15 and 2:15 p.m.
