As we’ve previously reported in our list of Outside Lands must-sees, D’Angelo is the type of artist you’d want to see before it’s too late. Given a recent cancellation of tour dates due to a medical emergency, it comes as little to no surprise that D’Angelo has pulled out of his Outside Lands appearance as well.
According to a press release sent to media Wednesday morning, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers will be taking D’Angelo’s slot to close the Sutro Stage on Friday. The iconic party band is best known for hits like “Le Freak” and “Good Times”. Chic should take you back to an even earlier era than D’Angelo might, though they’re anything but a simple throwback band.
Says Allen Scott of Another Planet Entertainment, “Chic is still one of the greatest live bands around and I can guarantee that they are going to bring the party to Outside Lands on Friday.”
