International Soccer Match Kicking Off At AT&T Park Tonight

A soccer match between two international teams is taking place tonight at San Francisco’s AT&T Park.

The Italian team Juventus FC and Everton FC from the English Premier League will kick off the match at 8 p.m. at the waterfront ballpark.

The match-up is part of the Guinness International Champions Cup, an eight-team tournament that also includes teams like Chelsea, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy.

Juventus is the two-time defending champion of the Italian Serie A league, while Everton may be known to U.S. soccer fans as the team on which American goalkeeper Tim Howard plays.

The winner of tonight’s match will travel to Phoenix on Thursday to play the winner of a match between Real Madrid and LA Galaxy. The championship of the tournament will take place in Miami on Aug. 7.

AT&T Park, home of the World Series champion San Francisco Giants, is hosting a soccer match for the third straight year, according to tournament organizers.

Previous matches have included the U.S. and Mexican national teams, the English Premier League squad Manchester City and Major League Soccer teams from the U.S., including the San Jose Earthquakes.

Tickets for tonight’s match are still available online at http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/ballpark/events/index.jsp. More information about the tournament can be found at www.internationalchampionscup.com.
