1:39 PM: A San Francisco man who was killed Saturday night in a shooting in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood has been identified as 24-year-old Melsar Godoy, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Godoy was among two groups of males involved in a shooting in the 800 block of O’Farrell Street at about 9:40 p.m., Sgt. Dennis Toomer said.
Godoy was pronounced dead at the scene, Toomer said. A second victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
During the incident, a responding officer fired at one of the armed suspects, but did not hit him, according to police.
The suspect fled on foot, and the officer pursued him and took him into custody, according to Toomer. His name has not been released.
Two guns were recovered from the scene, Toomer said.
It has not been determined if the shooting was gang related.
7:57 AM: One person is dead, and another is clinging to life after a shootout in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, a police sergeant said.
At about 9:40 p.m., an officer witnessed two groups of males involved in a shooting in the 800 block of O’Farrell Street, which is near Larkin Street, Sgt. Dennis Toomer said.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Toomer said.
During the incident, the officer fired his service weapon at one of the armed suspects, but did not hit him, Toomer said.
The suspect fled on foot, but the officer caught up to him and took him into custody, according to Toomer.
Two guns were recovered from the scene, Toomer said.
It is unknown if the two gunshot victims were involved in the original shooting.
No other suspect information was immediately available, and it is unknown whether the shooting was gang-related.
The person in custody has not been booked into jail.
The shooting remains under investigation.
