A Richmond man has been sentenced in federal court in San Francisco to 25 years in prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to sell it while also possessing a gun.

Sanchez Farias, 35, who pleaded guilty to the two crimes in May, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg on Tuesday.

U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag said Farias admitted during his guilty plea that he possessed nearly 50 pounds of methamphetamine, packaged in individual one-pound bags, and seven guns in his Richmond apartment on Aug. 9, 2011.

Farias was arrested that day during a search of his apartment by state and federal agents, according to court filings. He has been in custody since then.
