Firefighter Arrested After Collision With Motorcyclist

A San Francisco firefighter was arrested Saturday night following a collision involving a fire truck in which a motorcyclist was seriously injured, a fire department spokeswoman said this evening.

The collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday near Fifth and Howard streets, department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

The motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries, but was reportedly expected to recover, Talmadge said.

As a result of the collision, the on-duty firefighter was arrested for alleged criminal conduct, Talmadge said.

The fire department is conducting an internal investigation, and the firefighter has been placed off duty pending the outcome, Talmadge said.

A San Francisco police spokesman said he did not have any details on the collision or arrest of the firefighter. Talmadge said she did not know whether the firefighter remained in custody this evening.

The criminal case has been referred to the San Francisco District Attorney for review, Talmadge said.
