Owner Of Happy Donuts Shot While Attempting To Thwart Robbery

3:27 PM: The owner of a donut shop in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood was shot in the arm while trying to thwart a robbery at the store early this morning, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported at about 3 a.m. at the Happy Donut at 2600 Bayshore Blvd. at Sunnydale Avenue.

A suspect entered the donut shop and demanded money from a female employee at the cash register, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The owner heard the commotion and came out from the back of the store to find the suspect armed with a gun, Shyy said.

The owner grabbed a knife and a struggle ensued, during which the owner was shot in the arm and the robber was stabbed, according to Shyy.

The suspect then fled from the store and has not been found. He is described as a black man in his 40s who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing all-black clothing, Shyy said.

The store owner was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and was in stable condition this afternoon.

10 AM: A suspect remains outstanding after shooting a person at a donut shop in San Francisco this morning, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at Happy Donuts, located at 2600 Bayshore Blvd., at about 3 a.m., according to police.

The suspect fired a shot and struck a person, police said. In the altercation, the shooting suspect was stabbed.

It is unknown which event happened first, the shooting or the stabbing, according to police.

The shooter fled the area on foot and remains at large, police said. The condition of the shooting victim is unknown.

Police are investigating the incident.
