The weather is heating up in the Bay Area this Earth Day, and decades-old high-temperature records could be shattered today, a National Weather Service forecaster said.
Oakland and San Jose are both likely to set new record temperatures for today’s date, forecaster Diana Henderson said.
Those cities’ previous records were set in 1966 and 1998, when temperatures reached 82 degrees in Oakland and 89 degrees in San Jose, Henderson said.
San Francisco will probably not break its 86-degree record that was set on April 22, 1910, she said.
However, it will still be toasty in the city, with temperatures in the high 70s.
Temperatures will start to cool down on Wednesday, but some inland areas will stay hot later in the week, she said.
“The fog is creeping up the coast,” she said. “The ‘air conditioning’ will start kicking in.”
