Cyclist Hospitalized After Rear Ending Muni Bus

A bicyclist was hospitalized after crashing into the back of a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus in the city’s Bernal Heights neighborhood this morning, a Muni spokesman said.

The collision was reported at about 6:50 a.m. at Cortland Avenue and Bronte Street, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.

A 24-Divisadero bus was stopped at the intersection to pick up passengers when a bicyclist rear-ended the vehicle, Rose said.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with forehead and lip wounds, injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Rose said.

  • Potential Darwin Award winner here. He crashed into the back of a STATIONARY BUS?? Gaaah!

Do you know the intersection in question? It’s a pretty long downhill, and at 6:50 am it was fairly wet out. Not ideal conditions for stopping or avoiding suddenly.

Not only is it a long down hill, but it’s very steep. This intersection is at the end of one of the steepest parts.

This happened behind me as part of a group ride that regularly travels this road. I’m an experienced cyclist and it was not easy to keep the speed under control with the rain coming down on top of Bernal this morning. Wet brakes + wet road + 20% downhill grade make for tricky riding.

Thankfully the report is that the rider’s injuries were not serious.

Although it’s great to know that Peg Wolfe is judgy, awful human being.

Maybe y’all should have been riding a little slower for the conditions at the time

Excuses, excuses. It’s never the bicyclist’s fault. It’s the rain, the slope, anything but the bicyclist.

It was misty rain this AM and the road, a steep descent, was slick. Beginner mistake. Report is she’s cut but was treated quickly and is fine. I hate the term “injuries were not life-threatening” because that covers an extremely broad range. I hope reports are accurate and she heals quickly.
