12:27 PM: A college student visiting family during his spring break was killed in an apparent gang-related shooting in San Francisco’s Mission District early this morning, a police spokesman said.

Around 3 a.m., the 19-year-old man was walking with a friend near the intersection of 24th and Bryant streets when a car approached. A man exited the car, asked the teen if he was involved in a gang and shot him in his upper body, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle and the victim was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, Esparza said.

“The victim was home from college visiting family during spring break when this tragedy occurred,” Esparza said in a statement.

The suspects in the shooting remain at large.

7:32 AM: A man was hospitalized after being shot in San Francisco’s Mission District early this morning, police said.

The shooting was reported around 3:05 a.m. at the intersection of 24th and Bryant streets, according to police.

The man hit by the gunfire was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his wounds.

Information about the extent of his injuries or suspects in the shooting was not immediately available.
