Arson Suspected In Downtown Restaurant Fire

A fire at a restaurant in San Francisco’s Financial District early Saturday morning is considered suspicious, police and fire officials said today.

The one-alarm blaze was reported at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday at the 7 Pleasures restaurant at 554 Commercial St.

After extinguishing the fire, investigators determined that it had two points of origin and suspected it was arson, according to fire officials.

Shortly before the fire began, witnesses had heard a man yelling obscenities in a nearby alleyway, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

Police detained a man in his late 50s who matched the description given by witnesses, but no evidence was found linking him to the fire and he was released, Esparza said.

The blaze remains under investigation. Anyone with information about it is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
