sfpd_arrestcuffs.jpgA 27-year-old man was critically injured in a fight at a bar in San Francisco’s Cow Hollow neighborhood early Sunday morning, a police spokesman said today.

The attack was reported at 1:04 a.m. in the 1900 block of Union Street, which is near Laguna.

Initial reports indicated that the victim had bumped into the suspect and words were exchanged. As the victim walked away, the suspect grabbed him and slammed him to the ground, police said.

The victim landed on his head and was knocked out. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are considered life-threatening, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The suspect, identified as Paul Bennett Riley, a 22-year-old Martinez man, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Esparza said.
