Work will resume on San Francisco’s Central Subway project today on Stockton Street between Ellis and Geary streets, where construction has been on hiatus since Thanksgiving.
This portion of Stockton Street near Union Square will be closed to all vehicles except for emergency vehicles, according to the Municipal Transportation Agency.
In addition, Ellis Street between Stockton Street and the Ellis-O’Farrell Garage will be closed to westbound traffic, leaving one lane open for eastbound traffic.
Those taking the 38 or 38L Geary bus lines may experience some delays around Union Square, transportation officials said.
Bus re-routes for the 30 Stockton, 45 Union/Stockton, 8X/8AX/8BX Bayshore Express and 91 Owl that began early on during the construction project will continue until the Central Subway construction is completed.
The $1.6 billion Central Subway project will extend the T Third Line from an above-ground station near the 4th Street Caltrain station to Chinatown, with four new stations to create a rapid transit link from the BayShore and Mission Bay areas to the South of Market District.
The Central Subway is expected to open in 2019.
