ccsf.jpgStudents at City College of San Francisco have an opportunity to apply for a small scholarship created in honor of a leader of the LGBT community.

On Thursday, state Assemblyman Tom Ammiano announced a new scholarship for CCSF students, the Michael Goldstein Memorial Scholarship, according to the assemblyman’s office.

Goldstein was a leader of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club, and worked on a number of causes. He died in December 2011.

“I funded these scholarships as a way to remember his commitment to his community, and I hope they will help support a new generation of activists,” Ammiano said in a statement.

The scholarship fund will initially generate $500 for two students.

Donors are being sought to add to the fund, and Ammiano is asking those who wish to contribute to send a check made payable to “Michael Goldstein Memorial Scholarship” to 125 Upper Terrace, San Francisco, CA 94117.
