A man accused in a fatal shooting in San Francisco’s Crocker Amazon neighborhood early Monday morning also had a marijuana grow house and was found with multiple firearms when he was arrested, prosecutors said today.
Seth Myers, 32, made his initial appearance in San Francisco Superior Court today on murder and attempted murder charges.
Prosecutors allege that Myers was the person who killed 43-year-old Daniel Colon and injured his 34-year-old cousin Andrew Colon in a shooting that happened at about 12:05 a.m. Monday in the 1100 block of Naples Street.
Myers did not enter a plea and was ordered held on $2 million bail. He will return to court Monday for the continued arraignment.
Police said Myers was arrested later Monday at a home on Rolph Street nearby, and Assistant District Attorney Harry Dorfman said Myers was found with guns and pounds of marijuana at the residence, which was being used as a grow house.
Dorfman argued that those details showed a high bail amount was necessary because Myers “poses a serious danger to the public safety.”
He added that Myers was a flight risk because when he was arrested, he had multiple bags on him with firearms and other items inside, indicating that “flight was about to begin.”
Deputy Public Defender Kwixuan Maloof disputed that Myers was responsible for the shooting. He said the police report shows his client “was not the aggressor in this case,” but did not elaborate.
Myers only spoke briefly to Judge Richard Ulmer during the hearing and did not look over at several members of the Colon family who were in the courtroom.
One family member yelled “f—ing coward” to Myers as he was led out of the courtroom after the hearing.
Joe Colon, Daniel’s brother, struggled to hold back tears while discussing the case with reporters outside the courtroom.
“He’s taken away a very important part of our family,” he said.
“We’re still pretty angry, but we’re happy he’s been detained and off the streets,” said Marie Colon, Daniel’s niece.
She said Andrew is still in the hospital, but “he’s doing better and we hope he gets out soon.”
Marie Colon said the family does not know what precipitated the shooting.
“We have no idea who this guy is,” she said.
