11:38 AM: Police are seeking a suspect who fatally stabbed a man in San Francisco’s Bayview District early on New Year’s Day–the city’s first homicide of 2013, a police spokesman said today.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner’s office as 30-year-old San Francisco resident Walter Smith, was found suffering from a stab wound to the neck at about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday near Third Street and Ingerson Avenue.

Smith was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 3:45 a.m., police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The suspect, described as a bald black man in his 20s, remained at large as of this morning, Shyy said.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner’s office as 30-year-old San Francisco resident Walter Smith, was found around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at Third Street and Ingerson Avenue, according to police.

Smith was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No arrests have been made in the case.
