San Francisco police have identified a man who allegedly killed a woman’s dog during a robbery in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood last month as 35-year-old Laurice Barrett.
Police have released a photo of Barrett, who is wanted for robbery and animal cruelty.
The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the first block of Leavenworth Street, police said.
The victim, a 30-year-old woman, had pulled her vehicle over to the side of the road to look for her cellphone, police said.
She had gotten out of her car and gone over to the passenger-side door when a man approached, grabbed her shirt and began digging in her pockets while demanding money, according to police.
He found a small amount of money, but demanded more from the victim, at which point the victim’s dog started barking from inside the car, police said.
The man then reached into the car, grabbed the dog, threw it into the street and ran away, police said.
The woman took the dog to a veterinarian but it died, according to police.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect running away from the scene of the crime.
Police have posted the video and still photos from the footage on the department’s website. Police have also posted a headshot of the suspect.
