A father and son who died after being pulled from the water near the Golden Gate Bridge on Friday had been swept into the Bay while fishing in the Marin Headlands, officials said.
The two victims have been identified as San Francisco resident Juan Escamillo-Rojas, 37, and his 9-year-old son Juan Escamillo-Savoy, according to the Marin County coroner’s office.
The boy was swept into the San Francisco Bay by a wave at about 4:30 p.m., and his father entered the water to try to save him, officials said.
The two were unable to swim back to shore and were pulled from the water near the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge by a Tiburon fireboat at about 5 p.m.
They were pronounced dead after arriving at a nearby U.S. Coast Guard station, officials said.
