The historically close race for San Francisco’s District 7 supervisor seat widened a bit today, with board of education president Norman Yee now leading by 109 votes as of this afternoon, according to the city’s elections department.
Yee currently stands at 12,281 votes, compared to 12,172 for F.X. Crowley after six rounds of ranked-choice voting in the race to represent a district that includes the city’s West Portal and Parkmerced neighborhoods and areas west of Twin Peaks and near San Francisco State University.
There are less than 1,000 provisional ballots left to count after today for District 7 but at least 25,000 left for other races citywide, elections officials said.
Crowley, a former member of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and San Francisco Port Commission, led narrowly when initial results were released on Election Day last week, but Yee pulled ahead over the weekend as more votes were counted.
Michael Garcia, who was endorsed by termed-out Supervisor Sean Elsbernd, finished in third place.
Yee’s lead was only 33 votes when elections officials released their numbers on Monday, but that margin grew by 76 after more votes were counted today.
Department of Elections director John Arntz said Monday that the race was the closest ever for a supervisor’s seat that he was aware of in San Francisco.
The next round of results in the vote count will be announced by the department at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
