San Francisco police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the Mission District early Saturday morning.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, was shot in the upper torso as he walked on Caledonia Street at 16th Street around 2:45 a.m., police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The victim ran to 16th and Valencia streets, where he collapsed, Esparza said. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect fled east on 16th Street in an unknown vehicle. No suspect or vehicle description is available.

The shooting does not appear to be gang related, Esparza said.
