A woman was arrested after allegedly striking a buffer at the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza and then attacking and spitting at the law enforcement officials who took her into custody early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Shawnte Alexander, 26, of San Francisco, was allegedly driving a 1992 Lexus SC300 south on the bridge when the vehicle struck the buffer and came to a stop at the toll plaza, CHP officials said.
Officers determined that Alexander had been driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested her. While trying to get her into a patrol car, a CHP officer was kicked in the face by Alexander, who also spit and thrashed around and had to be restrained, according to the CHP.
Alexander was taken to the San Francisco Police Department’s Mission Station where she repeatedly tried to bite CHP officers and allegedly spit on a technician who was drawing blood to determine her level of intoxication, CHP officials said.
Alexander was booked into jail on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, resisting a peace officer, as well as battery on the peace officer and technician, according to CHP.
No officers were injured in the incident, nor were two passengers who were in Alexander’s car at the time of the crash.
