San Francisco city officials this weekend officially opened the newly renovated Mission playground and playing fields.

The $7.5 million Mission playground renovation was completed in two phases, San Francisco Rec and Park officials said today. The grand opening of the newly renovated playground was held Saturday.

The first phase include improvements to the Valencia Street courtyard and the addition of new play equipment, a water play feature and artist designed fence panels, a new synthetic turf playing field, tennis and basketball courts with fencing, new lighting, planting and irrigation.

Phase Two includes work on the clubhouse, playground and 19th Street entrance, as well as renovations to Mission Pool, which will be completed in November.
