The conference, which has been held at the Moscone Center at 747 Howard St. since earlier this week, included talks this morning with company CEO and chairman Marc Benioff and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee.

Company organizers estimate more than 50,000 technology and business people are participating in this year’s event, which began Tuesday and ends Friday.

Other keynote speakers this week include former secretary of state Colin Powell and motivational speaker Tony Robbins.

The conference is changing gears tonight at Dreamforce’s Opening Night Gala at Civic Center Plaza next to San Francisco City Hall.

Access to the outdoor venue, which has taken over the plaza by setting up a stage and tents since Sunday, is limited to those with conference badges, according to a Salesforce.com blog post about the gala.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are scheduled to perform at 8:15 p.m. after the gala kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with DJ Zen Freeman.

The show is scheduled to end by 10 p.m.

According to the permits and reservations division of San Francisco Recreation and Parks, a commercial permit for Civic Center Plaza was issued starting Sunday and ending Friday.

The parks department charges a $25,000 commercial fee for use of the Civic Center space as listed on their fee schedule.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has street closures in effect for the Gala event today through 7 a.m. Saturday along Grove Street between Polk and Larkin streets and a portion of Fulton Street at Larkin Street. The 19-Polk bus route will be affected by the closures.
