Police received reports of an armed robbery at the Amsterdam Hostel at 749 Taylor St. 8:09 p.m., police said.

The victim, a guest at the hostel, told police that he invited two females in their 20s to his hostel bedroom and after leaving, the two females returned to the hostel room with two males in their 20s.

The victim told police that one suspect dry fired two rounds from a black semi-automatic handgun and another hit the victim with a tire iron, according to police.

After a brief struggle, all four suspects fled the room with the victim’s cell phone and two paper notebooks, police said.

The victim suffered scratches and bruises to the arm, but refused medical attention, police said.

The definition of dry firing is to pull the trigger on an empty chamber. And without the blowback from live ammo the slide will not cycle on a semi-auto. Something is not right with this story. Why would you dry fire your weapon during a robbery?
