Three men were arrested this week in connection with an armed robbery in the Mission District, according to San Francisco police.
The robbery occurred early Wednesday morning, just after midnight, when the victims, two male San Francisco residents, were walking on the 2800 block of 22nd Street, which is near Florida Street, police said.
Three suspects surrounded the victims, and two pointed handguns at them while the third reached under his shirt, simulating a gun. The victims handed over cell phones, a wallet containing cash and a digital music player, and then the suspects fled.
The victims called 911 and a police officer responding to the area saw two men matching the suspects’ descriptions running on Folsom Street near 20th Street.
One suspect, later identified as Xavier Williams, 24, got into a blue Hyundai parked on the 3300 block of 20th Street and reached under the driver’s seat, while the other suspect, Mark Mays, 25, ran to the passenger door, according to police.
When the officer tried to stop them, Mays fled north on Folsom Street while Williams was detained.
With the help of bystanders, police located Mays lying on a set of stairs in the 2300 block of Folsom Street, sweating heavily and leaning on a black jacket he had removed, police said. He was detained, as was a third suspect found in the 2300 block of Folsom Street.
Police found a semi-automatic handgun under the driver’s seat of the Hyundai and another under a car nearby. Officers also found the victims’ discarded stolen property and a jacket removed by one of the suspects.
Mays, a San Francisco resident, and Williams, a Richmond resident, were arrested on suspicion of two counts of robbery, weapons charges, possession of stolen property and conspiracy. A third suspect, Jerome Davis, 40, of San Francisco, was booked on outstanding warrants, police said.
