The fire was reported at 10:50 a.m. at a six-story building at 355 Fulton St., Capt. Jeanne Seyler said.
The initial report was of an alarm sounding, and the fire department sent a fire engine, a truck and a battalion chief to the scene, Seyler said.
When they arrived and saw that a fire was burning, they called in additional crews. The blaze was controlled at 11:07 a.m., she said.
No injuries were reported.
