true-sf-giants-new-era-cap.jpgFans of baseball and yoga will have a chance to experience both at AT&T Park in the San Francisco Giants first annual Yoga Day on Sept. 5.

Fans who purchase a special event ticket for the Yoga Day will begin their day with a yoga session in the outfield led by world-renowned Vinyasa yoga teacher and Bay Area native Janet Stone from 8 to 9:15 a.m., Giants spokesman Faham Zakariaei said.

“San Francisco has an incredible following of yoga with what seems like a yoga studio on every block,” Zakariaei said. The Giants fully expect to fill up the 750-capacity session, he said.

Stone has been practicing yoga since 1996, leading trainings around the world, including Bali, Mexico and India. Stone offers a series of DVDs and the “Yoga with Janet Stone” iTunes app.

The yoga session will also have a live music accompaniment, performed by Bay Area native and multi-platinum musician Michael Franti, Zakariaei said.

Franti, a Giants fan and yoga practitioner, is known for the single “Say Hey (I Love You),” an homage to the Giants, and has been part of over 10 studio albums. Franti also recently launched Soulshine, a boutique hotel and yoga retreat in Ubud, Bali.

The Giants have been trying to coordinate an event with Franti for quite some time now, Zakariaei said. This is one of those fun opportunities to get him involved where everyone benefits, he said.

The all-inclusive ticket, ranging from $50 to $85 covers the yoga session, a meet-and-greet with Stone and Franti, a seat for the Giants 7:15 p.m. game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and a Giants-themed yoga mat, Zakariaei said.

Tickets can be purchased by calling (415) 972-2298 or visiting www.sfgiants.com/specialevents with the proceeds benefiting Franti’s Power to the Peaceful Foundation, Zakariaei said.
