Two men were convicted Thursday of first-degree murder and other charges for a fatal shooting and carjacking in San Francisco’s Bayview District in 2009, prosecutors said today.
Sammy Frazier, 39, and Timothy Walker, 27, were accused of fatally shooting 51-year-old Winston Coleman at Third Street and Galvez Avenue and then stealing his car early on the morning of May 31, 2009.
After six days of deliberation, a San Francisco Superior Court jury found the pair guilty Thursday of first-degree murder, carjacking and conspiracy to commit carjacking, according to the district attorney’s office.
According to court documents and witness testimony, Coleman was exiting a bar when he was shot in the back and his SUV was carjacked.
Police got a description of the car from bystanders and eventually pulled the suspects over and arrested them about 10 minutes later, prosecutors said.
The pair face a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison without the possibility of parole. They will return to court on Sept. 13 to set a date for the sentencing.
