police-light-bar1.jpgWe all know a huge drinking holiday is imminent, which means DUI checkpoints are set for this Saturday. Yes, you read correctly: the police have apparently caught on to the fact that June 30th is parapsychologist Raymond Moody‘s birthday and want to make sure you don’t have a near-death experience, which is why a checkpoint will be set at Lombard and Divisadero at 8:30pm.

The sobriety checkpoint, which will be patrolled by SFPD, US Park Police, SFSU Police, CHP, and SFCC Police, is part of the “Avoid the 8” program. This buzzkill of a stop isn’t just for drinking, however. Drug-recognition officers will be onhand to assess whether or not motorists are also under the influence of illicit drugs and dangerous prescription medications, so follow the damn warning label and stay off that heavy machinery.

Says SFPD traffic Captain Denis O’Leary, “Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs isn’t just a minor mistake; it’s a serious, often. The good news is that it’s completely preventable.”
