12:04 PM: Police have identified a man arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing another man in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood on Tuesday evening as 52-year-old Clenny Thierry, a police spokesman said today.

The stabbing was reported around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near Ninth and Natoma streets, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner’s office as Kenneth Lyon, 42, was sitting on the curb outside a restaurant when someone walked up behind him and stabbed him in the back, Andraychak said.

A witness alerted police who were nearby, and the officers began to render aid to Lyon.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Andraychak.

The officers were able to detain the suspect a short distance away in the 1200 block of Howard Street. The man, later identified as Thierry, was then arrested, Andraychak said.
Police have not released a possible motive for the killing.

10:05 AM: A man who was fatally stabbed in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood on Tuesday evening has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 42-year-old Kenneth Lyon.

The stabbing was reported at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Howard Street, police said.

Lyon was apparently sitting on the curb outside a restaurant when someone walked up behind him and stabbed him in the back, according to police.

Lyon was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect, a 52-year-old man, fled but was eventually taken into custody. Police have not yet released his name.

2:27 AM: A man was stabbed to death in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood on Tuesday evening, police said.

Police responded to the stabbing at around 6:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Howard Street, which is near 8th, police said.

No further information about the victim, motive or any possible suspects was immediately available.
