sfpd_arrestcuffs.jpgA man arrested after a police officer shot at him during an apparent robbery attempt in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood Sunday night was identified by police today as 39-year-old Hayward resident Derryck King.

The incident began at about 10:40 p.m. when two officers driving in the area of Fremont and Mission streets heard a woman scream, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said. The officers saw a woman struggling with a man before breaking free.

The suspect, later identified as King, was brandishing a firearm, prompting one of the officers to shoot at him. King was not struck by the shot, and then dropped his gun and was arrested without further incident, police said.

King was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.
