A car struck a house on Mansell Street in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood this evening, rupturing a gas line, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

The car struck the house at 920 Mansell shortly before 9 p.m., according to a San Francisco fire dispatcher.

The collision severed a gas line at the home, and caused one person to be transported to San Francisco General Hospital.

The meter on the line was completely sheared off, leaving the line uncapped and without a shut-off valve, according to PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi.

The fire department was able to temporarily block the line, but PG&E work crews will need to dig up a section of street to completely block the flow of gas to the damaged line before it can be repaired, Guidi said.

There is no time estimate on when repairs will be completed.

There were no evacuations connected to the leak and no other customers were affected.

Building inspectors have been called to the scene to determine the extent of the damage to the home, according to the fire dispatcher.
