Local civic and business leaders are participating Thursday in an event in San Francisco meant to inspire young girls about what can be done with their education.

The seventh-annual “Women & Girls Leadership Summit,” sponsored by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, is being held at Metropolitan Arts & Technology High School in the city’s Bayview District.

San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, Supervisor Malia Cohen, whose district includes the Bayview, and City Administrator Naomi Kelly are among the civic leaders expected to speak at the event.

Business leaders scheduled to speak include AT&T regional vice president of external affairs Loretta Walker and Yan Heim, founder and CEO of the website Froomz.

The women plan to discuss their stories of struggle during their high school years, and will visit various classrooms and have lunch with about 100 girls from the high school, according to the event’s organizers.

The event is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. at the school, located at 1195 Hudson Ave.
